What You Can Expect

Our Electrician I based at the beautiful University of Iowa Campus will be a licensed Journeyman electrician servicing, and installing utility substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment operating at less than 600 volts. 

 

Our responsibilities on campus include the operation, maintenance and expansion of the utility plants and distribution network on both the main and satellite campuses. We are in the early years of a 50 year Operations and Maintenance agreement on campus.

 

Every day with safety as your highest priority you will be operating, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing electric utility systems; including low voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, protection and control systems, lighting, ventilation and pumping systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters and controls and conduit, cable and wiring systems operating at less than 600 volts. This work will take place across the University of Iowa Main Campus and the Coralville satellite. 

 

  • You will determine jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procure materials for the installation or repair, coordinate outages, complete the work and place systems back into service.
  • You will interpret and maintain wiring diagrams, schematics,  and update system logs, drawings and documentation on utility systems. You will work around and with medium voltage (600 volts to 15kV) utility systems under the direction of High Voltage Electricians. 

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You must have a minimum education of a High School diploma or GED or it’s equivalent
  • This role requires a state of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license
  • You will have experience with electric utility systems and equipment

  • You have experience with the tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain electrical utility equipment. 
  • You have experience in applying the principles, methods, and techniques used in the electrical trade
  • You have experience applying precautions and proper equipment to protect yourself and others from trade related occupational hazards while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmentally caused conditions
  • You have experience applying electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state, and national electrical and safety codes, equipment manufacturers and others
  • You are able to read and understand blueprints, schematics, control system drawings and repair manuals 
  • You are able to perform basic math computations as needed in the trade 
  • You have the ability to maintain records and system documentation
  • You have the ability to analyze system problems, recommend and implement system changes
  • You are able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the general public

 

 

 

Additional Details

  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • You must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and clean driving record; This role requires the daily safe operation of company vehicles
  • We will require you to obtain a CDL to operate a bucket truck as you progress in your field
  • This position consist of 50% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range:  $26.59 – $40.75 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency or on-call pay.
